Archives of IT (AIT) has an exciting opportunity to take a leading role developing educational materials and activities in a young and expanding charity.

What we do
AIT is an online collection of oral histories and materials that tell the story of the development and achievements of the UK’s Tech industries through the experience of those who have been or are involved in the IT sector. The Archive is used to form the basis of educational activities and career information.

We create opportunities for young people and skills for UK business through easy-to-use lesson plans and National Day resources engage learners in computing with cross-curricular, creative and fun activities.

Recently we have created a series of lesson plans that cover topics such as Women in IT, Black History Month and Anti-Bullying as well as classroom resources for primary school teachers to deliver the computer science curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 in a series of one-hour lessons.

We are now looking for a creative, experienced educator and content designer to expand this series and help steer the planning and engagement over the next six months.

The Role
• Work as part of the Education Team designing materials to support teachers in primary schools to:
• Address the requirements of the National Curriculum in term of skills and knowledge.
• Create interest in and enthusiasm for information technology (IT), its history, importance to society and career opportunities using our archive materials and other sources to make learning fun
• Ensure children understand at an early age the nature of work in the industry and the career opportunities it offers
• Help children use IT safely and understand and manage its impact on their and others’ wellbeing, including issues such as safe searching, cyberbullying and e safety
• Contribute to the relations with our network of schools and partner organisations

The Person
• Is an outgoing, self-starter, who is articulate and enjoys engaging with customers and partners to develop solutions to the needs of students and teachers using AIT resources
• With experience in an educational role preferably both as a teacher and advisor and with an established network of contacts in schools, advisory bodies and suppliers
• Knows about the Tech industry and Computing education
• Is creative and practised in the use of office technology and design tools

Employment basis
• Self-employed, 3 days per week, flexitime, initial contract 6 months
• The role is home based with visits and meetings in London and the Southeast.
• Remuneration on a daily rate equivalent to £30 – 35k full time salary plus reimbursement of travel

You’ll be joining a tier one investment bank with a global presence.

Your new role
Here, you’ll build performant Java applications for electronic trading, working closely with users to build them. You’ll use your deep knowledge of Java to build multi-threaded applications running on Linux.

You’ll be working on a key strategic platform for the business, so we need Java Developers comfortable designing clean, simple solutions that will be resilient over time.

What you’ll need to succeed
Given this is a contract role with fast paced deliveries in a front office environment – you’ll need to have worked in this environment previously. The asset class in question is equities but you should definitely apply if you have strong knowledge in other front office business environments. There are no specific technology requirements beyond deep knowledge of core Java.
